 What’s Happened in the 50 States This Year?

During 2000, the
“state of the state” of brownfields continued to evolve and
mature. Many different – but equally effective – approaches
have been put into place to meet the multiple challenges and common
objectives of brownfield reuse. Across the country, elected officials
and program administrative staffs have made numerous efforts to make sure
that their programs reflected local brownfield project needs, ran smoothly,
and took advantage of opportunities to tie brownfield cleanup and
redevelopment assistance with regulatory incentives.

A property located on a bank of the East River and in a densely developed residential and commercial area, had its work cut out for it from an environmental remediation standpoint. The mission was to clean up the land and ultimately make one puzzle piece to a larger urban revitalization project that would be redeveloped as a public library and park ranger station.
