Indianapolis’s largest brownfield site will experience a second life when a city-based manufacturing firm builds its new 150,000 square-foot building on
the property. Major Tool and Machine recently purchased the former home of Ertel Manufacturing Corp., which produced auto parts for over
80 years.
It was abandoned in 2002 after its last occupant, the Dynagear Corp, shut down
valve production and moved out of the city.

A property located on a bank of the East River and in a densely developed residential and commercial area, had its work cut out for it from an environmental remediation standpoint. The mission was to clean up the land and ultimately make one puzzle piece to a larger urban revitalization project that would be redeveloped as a public library and park ranger station.
