Sen. Hillary Clinton: Revitalizing Long Island
 As a longtime champion of brownfield redevelopment, Sen. Hillary Clinton, (D-N.Y.), will soon see her hard work come to fruition in the Long Island community of New Cassel in North Hempstead. By the end of 2008, three buildings that combine housing and retail were scheduled to open on Prospect Avenue, the town’s blighted main street. And in 2009, more sites in New Cassel’s $60 million redevelopment project are slated to be up and running, adding both residential and commercial developments to the town of 12,000.
“Cleaning up and redeveloping brownfields is a win for our environment and our economy, and I strongly believe that it is our duty to be better stewards of our environment—for the sake of our own health and the natural legacy that we will pass along to future generations,” said Sen. Clinton.

A property located on a bank of the East River and in a densely developed residential and commercial area, had its work cut out for it from an environmental remediation standpoint.
