Referring to real estate transactions, Donald Trump has been quoted as saying: “it’s tangible, it’s solid, it’s beautiful . . . it’s artistic . . . and I just love real estate.”At least he didn’t say it was easy, because there are probably a few folks working in the brownfield sector that might have disagreed, although to varying degrees.
The national brownfields conference is now in its eleventh year and has continued to grow from its beginnings as a tabletop exercise into the most anticipated event on the redevelopment circuit. Brownfields 2006 in Boston, November 13-15, is no exception, with more registrants and exhibitors than in any previous year. A property located on a bank of the East River and in a densely developed residential and commercial area, had its work cut out for it from an environmental remediation standpoint. The mission was to clean up the land and ultimately make one puzzle piece to a larger urban revitalization project that would be redeveloped as a public library and park ranger station.
