One method of groundwater cleanup involves
manipulating the balance of electron acceptors (oxygen) and electron donors
(hydrogen) in groundwater. This method recruits or enhances naturally
occurring subsurface microbes in a series of metabolic and enzymatic
reactions that can degrade a wide range of contaminants, from
petroleum-based hydrocarbons and fuel oxygenates to chlorinated solvents
and certain metals.
Two products that aid in the provision of electron
acceptors and electron donors are Oxygen Release Compound (ORC) and
Hydrogen Release Compound (HRC) (products from Regenesis). ORC and HRC can
speed the provision of electron acceptors and electron donors in
groundwater for accelerated bioremediation.

A property located on a bank of the East River and in a densely developed residential and commercial area, had its work cut out for it from an environmental remediation standpoint.
