 The state of Illinois in March took a historic step toward creating a bullet train network when the Illinois Senate passed a bill creating the Illinois and Midwest High Speed Rail Commission. The 12-member commission is expected to issue specific guidelines by March 2011 on how best to structure a public-private partnership to design, build and operate a high speed rail system at speeds of 150 miles per hour and up.
It also would issue recommendations on how to fund the network and integrate the new bullet trains with airports, Amtrak service and public transportation systems throughout the Midwest.

A property located on a bank of the East River and in a densely developed residential and commercial area, had its work cut out for it from an environmental remediation standpoint. The mission was to clean up the land and ultimately make one puzzle piece to a larger urban revitalization project that would be redeveloped as a public library and park ranger station.
