The first time you visit Palouse, Wash. you start making plans to move there. The
Palouse region of southeast Washington State is one of the most photogenic
landscapes in the country with endless rolling hills of wheat, and prairie
grass dotted with farms.
Nestled in river valley is the city of Palouse (pop. 1,025). Located twenty minutes from Washington State University and the University of
Idaho, the town is a blend of agricultural heritage, historic architecture, and emerging artistic sensibilities. Like many rural
communities, Palouse declined economically for several decades until 1998 when
a severe flood that Main Street waist deep in water. This proved to be a
turning point, and the community responded to this tragedy with a focused,
multi-year effort to revitalize downtown.

In Michigan, some are predicting a better business climate for redevelopment and regulatory closure of contaminated properties thanks to a bill Michigan Governor Rick Snyder was scheduled to sign last week. A property located on a bank of the East River and in a densely developed residential and commercial area, had its work cut out for it from an environmental remediation standpoint. The mission was to clean up the land and ultimately make one puzzle piece to a larger urban revitalization project that would be redeveloped as a public library and park ranger station.
