Midwest: Grand Landing

LOCATION: South channel of the Grand River in Grand Haven, Mich.

PROPOSED USE: luxury and loft-style condominiums and two-story residences, hotel, convention center, outdoor amphitheatre, restaurants, retail stores and service businesses.

SITE BACKGROUND: The site was used throughout its history for manufacturing, as a tannery, for furniture making, as a municipal wastewater treatment plant, for metal plating, as petroleum storage and for distribution, auto repair, and brine storage.

SIZE: 21 acres

PARTNERS: Grand Landing LLC; Michigan Department of Environmental Quality; City of Grand Haven; J. Arthur Miller (architect); Rockford Construction Co. Inc.; Platinum Construction

COST: $70 million

SYNOPSIS: The first phase of the project opened in fall 2007 with 40 condominiums, 8,000 square feet of office space and 34,000 square feet of retail space. Plans for a Hilton Garden Inn were approved by the Grand Haven City Council in December 2008, and construction may be able to start by June 2009.
