The city of West Sacramento, Calif., has been actively embarking upon environmental assessment projects with the goal to cleanup a host of abandoned properties.
The first project completed was a Phase I site assessment for an affordable housing development conducted under a new U.S. EPA Brownfields Assessment Grant recently obtained by the city.
The city is working with developer BRIDGE Housing to develop a high-density housing project on the site once used to dry and store rice. Located in the Bridge District of West Sacramento, the site is approximately one acre in size.
The work is being done in tandem with its partner environmental consulting and contracting firm SCS Engineers, based in Long Beach.
Other environmental consulting projects being performed in West Sacramento in conjunction with SCS include:
A cost estimate for the Port of West Sacramento;
An environmental assessment for a Port of West Sacramento site scheduled for redevelopment
Four Phase I site assessments along West Capitol Avenue;
A Phase I site assessment to support renovation of Capitol Bowl, a West Capitol Avenue landmark;
A third-party review and sampling and analysis plan for a former plating facility; and
A soil and groundwater investigation for a local bank as part of their due diligence process.
Stay tuned for these and more redevelopment and cleanup efforts to take shape in the city.

Brownfield Stateside Report

by Staff Report
In Michigan, some are predicting a better business climate for redevelopment and regulatory closure of contaminated properties thanks to a bill Michigan Governor Rick Snyder was scheduled to sign last week. The new regulations should have a positive impact on commercial real estate development and brownfields redevelopment resulting in the creation of jobs. |
