Contrary to the shrill national discourse that reigned supreme in 2011, there is continued improvement to stakeholder dialog at the state level in NJ. It isn't just the regulatory agency that has changed (but it has); stakeholder participants are much less adversarial when they come to the table and are engaging in real dialog. It is time consuming but really yielding noticeable results.
NJ has reached a realistic acceptance that environmental programs have economic impacts, both positive and negative. NJDEP's five goals for the next generation of environmental management include strategies for economic vitality, public health improvements, and environmental protection . NJDEP has a relatively new position of Assistant Commissioner for Economic Growth and Green Energy (EGGE).
