Bob Blauvelt of GEI Consultants provided an update to real estate and environmental professionals last week and we thought we'd share his recap of brownfields funding, the Licensed Site Remediation Professionals program and anticipated changes to the ASTM 1527-05 Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment process.
Brownfield Funding: NJ has funded 1581 projects worth $297M over the past 17 years. Currently 250 applications for brownfield funding are pending (valued at $74M). $23M remains in the fund and there is a projected fiscal 2012 appropriation of $13.6M. Take out those calculators: there is a shortfall of about $38M, and that is just for the applications that have been waiting. That doesn't take into account new applications (although both NJDEP and EDA did close the fund to new applications and stop processing applications while the Fund' health or lack thereof is sorted out).
